HOPEWELL TWP.: Samantha Stout earns doctorate in preservation 

Samantha Stout recently completed her Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering at the University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Stout spent several years conducting field research in Italy and traveling to interdisciplinary conferences focusing on the scientific study of art and cultural artifacts for preservation purposes.
On Aug 26, she defended her dissertation, titled “A Diagnostic Exam for the Non-invasive Identification of the Artist’s Palette of Pigments.“ The manuscript was submitted to the archives of the California Digital Library in October and she was conferred the degree on Dec. 12.
Dr. Stout continues to live in Florence, Italy, with her husband, Italian pianist and composer Antonio Artese.
She is a 2006 graduate of Hopewell Valley Central High School. She completed her undergraduate degree in materials science engineering at Cornell University, followed by a master’s degree in engineering from UCSD.
Dr. Stout is the daughter of Jay and Suzanne Stout of Hopewell Township, and the granddaughter of Dorothy Dutko of Pennington. 
